My research is focussed around the dynamics of the
large scale ocean circulation and its interaction with climate, now
and in the past. Current research interests include the interaction
between polar deep water formation regions during the quaternary;
deglaciation dynamics of the Southern Ocean upwelling regions; the
dynamics of the inflows and outflows through the Arctic Straits, now
and in the past; and the role of convection in the meridional overturning
circulation. I address these problems using theory and models of
various complexity and through collaboration with observationalists
and paleoceanographers.
