
Barbara Hobson holds a
chair in Sociology with a specialization in comparative
gender studies. Her general research area is in
political sociology, including the subfields of Citizenship
and Welfare Regimes; Social Movements; Recognition and
Diversity. She has been a coordinator and partner in
several international research projects. For the past five
years,she has been researcher leader in FP6 Network of
Excellence: Applying Sen's Capabilities and agency framework
to gender, work and welfare states and coordinator for
a European Science Foundation project: The Changing Relationship
between work, welfare and gender equality in Europe:
Developing a capabilities approach to transitions using
quantitative and qualitative cross-national comparison
between and within European countries.
Her current
research project builds upon earlier projects and research on
gender, diversity and citizenship: Do Welfare Regimes Matter: Migration and
care/domestic work in two institutional contexts: Sweden and
Spain, Riksbankens Jubileumsfond, 2012-2014.
She is a founding editor and
a current editor of Social Politics: International Studies
of Gender, State and Society, an Oxford University Press
journal ranked in the ISI (1.58)
