Research

My research interests lie broadly within the field of economic geography and urban development. I am studying local and global processes, regional development, knowledge intensive economic activities, knowledge development and the role of organisations, institutions, labour and agency for economic change. The geography I am trying to understand is about how places are related in wider multi-local networks of economic activities. This leads my research work into questions about globalization processes, flows, interactions and mobility.

Coordinator for the Research profile: Urban and economic geography – global and local processes.

This research profile studies urban space-economies from a wide perspective including relations to economic, political, social and cultural spheres. Local and global processes and structures are studied and analysed. Economic structures and systems for provisioning in particular localities evolve differently depending on external relations and processes globally. In this research profile we aim a main interest towards relations, networks and flows.

Research projects

Swedish Cities in “the Spaces of Flows”: National, European and Global Networks.

Funding: The Swedish Research Council Formas

This research project has been developed from the core idea that spaces of flows have becomes basic processes and elements in the development of cities and in the development of the space-economy. The argument by Castells (1996) is that networks are the basic morphology in our contemporary society. This research project aims to contribute with empirical research about the spaces of flows of cities in Sweden.

The global knowledge economy – relations and flows in the ICT sector between India and Europe

Funding: Forum for Asian Studies, Stockholm University

This research project is about the internationalization of ICT firms and with a particular focus on Indian ICT firm with foreign direct investments in Sweden and in other countries in Europe.

Eco-networks for eco-innovations and a green economy

Funding: Faculty for social studies, Stockholm University

This research project is about innovations (eco-innovations) for sustainable development.
