After finishing my PhD at the University of Minnesota in 1993, I have been employed on a teaching position at the Department of Physical Geography and Quaternary Geology, Stockholm University since 1995. I was promoted to Full Professor on 1 July, 2004. During the years 2004 and 2005, I was affiliated to the Centre for University Pedagogics at the Stockholm University where I worked on courses on university pedagogics for course administrators and head of departments. My research is currently primarily split between a major project with the Swedish Authority for Spent Nuclear Waste (SKB, 2002-2006), on establishing subglacial hydrology conditions met beneath past ice sheets, and a three-year grant to N.R Iverson (NSF, 2006-2008), on the effects on ice flow at the boundary between melting and frozen bed conditions beneath glaciers. I also have several ongoing collaborations dealing with glacier mass balance and climate with people from ETH-Zürich, University of Innsbruck, Univ. of Washington, Univ. of Gothenburg and within the geosciences in Stockholm. I am serving as Secretary/Treasurer for the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics Commission for the Cryospheric Sciences (UCCS). Part of my work within UCCS is to suggest and lead workshops on identified topics of major concerns to the cryospheric sciences. I am a contributing author for the forthcoming Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)-report.
